When the same fixing fails again

Repeated loosening matters more than the number of times a screw has been tightened. Note whether the hinge plate moves against the cabinet, whether the door has dropped relative to its neighbour, or whether the panel around the fixing looks chipped or swollen. These observations separate a possible alignment issue from a support problem. They are clues for assessment, not proof that the entire cabinet is beyond repair.

A locally damaged fixing area may permit a repair that retains the existing door. More extensive panel damage can change that decision, particularly if moisture remains present. The proposed scope should explain what will support the hinge after repair and whether the panel, door and other hinges can be retained. Replacing hardware without considering its support may leave the original reason for failure unresolved.

An older drawer needs compatible parts, not a similar-looking runner

Tell the repairer whether the drawer drops, catches on one side or stops short of closing, and whether the problem appeared after its contents changed. Soft-close action and the drawer staying supported are different functions. Assess the drawer box and its support separately before deciding whether a failed soft-close mechanism calls for wider replacement.

For an older cabinet, runner length, clearances, fixing positions and drawer construction need checking together. An online photograph of a similar part cannot confirm compatibility. Record any visible model label without removing the drawer. Agree whether the quote covers hardware only, panel repair, drawer-box work or replacement cabinetry. Keep clear of a hanging door, a loose drawer or an unstable mirrored wardrobe panel until it has been assessed.

Cupboard hinge pulled out: check the panel as well as the hinge

A hinge can be sound while its screws no longer hold in a damaged cabinet panel. Conversely, a worn hinge may need compatible replacement hardware even where the panel is intact. Note whether the door has dropped, a hinge is broken or screws have pulled out. Repeatedly tightening a loose screw does not establish that the fixing area can support the door. If the door is hanging unevenly, stop using it until it can be assessed safely.

Cabinet door alignment and matching hardware

A gap or rubbing edge can involve hinge adjustment, loose mounting plates or movement in the cabinet. The hinge type, opening angle and existing mounting arrangement matter when selecting a replacement. Keep the old hardware available and record which doors are affected. Repair assessment should include neighbouring panels and the closing action, not just the visible gap. A new fitted cabinet is a different project from retaining a door and repairing its hardware.

Drawer off its runners: identify what has moved

A sticking drawer may have damaged runners, loose screws, an obstruction or distortion in the drawer box. Soft-close runners are not interchangeable simply because they look similar. Width, length, load requirements and the mounting arrangement affect compatibility. Empty an unstable drawer and avoid forcing it. Explain whether the problem began after loading, moving furniture or previous work so the assessment can consider the surrounding cabinet.

What to include in a cabinet repair enquiry

List the doors and drawers affected, what they do when used and whether you want the existing cabinetry retained. Photos of the front and safely accessible hardware can help, but are optional. Include missing parts and any rental approval requirements. A useful quote identifies hardware, fixing-area repair, alignment and any finish work. Ask what changes if hidden panel damage is found before additional work proceeds.

Common Repair Questions

Why do cupboard hinge screws keep coming loose?

The fixing hole, panel or mounting plate may be damaged, or the door load may be affecting the fixing. Repeated tightening does not identify the cause. An assessment checks both the hardware and the material holding it.

Can new drawer runners fit an older cabinet?

Sometimes, but dimensions, clearances and the mounting arrangement must match. The drawer box and cabinet condition also matter. A compatible product should be confirmed before replacement is agreed.

Should I replace the hinge or repair the cabinet panel?

That depends on which part has failed. A sound hinge in a damaged panel needs a different repair from a broken hinge on sound cabinetry. We check both before quoting.

Cupboard Hinge Repairs, Drawer Runners & Wardrobe Tracks

Can a broken kitchen cabinet hinge be replaced?

Yes. We check the hinge type, mounting holes and cabinet panel before quoting the repair. A compatible new hinge may be needed, or the damaged fixing area may require repair. Reusing the same stripped holes without assessing the panel can leave the door loose again.

Can you assess a wardrobe door scraping its bottom track?

Yes. Tell us whether it is a sliding door, whether it has come off the track and what catches. We inspect the rollers, guides, track and alignment before agreeing the repair. Do not force or lift a heavy or mirrored door that is unstable.

Cabinet repair or new cabinetry?

For existing hinges, drawer runners and wardrobe tracks, start with cupboard and wardrobe repair assessment. New fitted cabinetry is a separate design and replacement task.

Use cabinet and wardrobe repairs for an existing hinge, drawer runner or wardrobe door fitting. The Southern Corridor drawer example shows before and after views of confirmed runner replacement; it does not document an intermediate repair stage.

What to take from this guide

A fallen cupboard door can involve the hinge, its fixing or the cabinet panel; a drawer that repeatedly comes off its runner can involve support and alignment as well as the mechanism. Those distinctions determine whether local repair, compatible hardware or a wider replacement makes sense. Describe the recurrence and visible damage before buying parts, and identify who can approve the work. The FAQ questions explain hinge and runner choices; the cabinet repair service sets out the assessment scope.
